Put On The Peanut Butter On ... Your Arms?

The teacher literally wipes peanut butter and jelly on her arms because one of the instructions said: “put on peanut butter and jelly”. Obviously that wasn’t the intent, but without much more context, specification, and clarification, that’s what she did. Eventually the class learns the importance of being clear and adding detail.

Help AI Design A PB&J Sandwich

I was reminded of this video when I work with AI. I spent this past summer designing with AI, building several apps. This video more or less sums up how you should approach working with AI when designing. When I first started throwing prompts in Midjourney, Lovable, Claude, and ChatGPT, I was telling the AI to “put on the peanut butter.” Needless to say, I wasn’t getting what I wanted. Fast forward and a couple AI apps in - clear, detailed, specifications prompts work well.

• Thinking through the steps.
  • Being clear.
  • Breaking instructions down step by step.
  • Prompting step by step instead of all at once.
  • Explaining the why.
  • Explaining what not to do.
